Why this guide exists
The voice on the phone can be fake now
Scammers can copy a loved one’s voice from about three seconds of audio, put a real face on a live video call, and write emails with no spelling mistakes in any language. A California mother sent about $5,000 after hearing her daughter crying on the phone. Her daughter was safe at work the whole time.
This isn’t only happening to grandparents. Parents, office workers, students and teenagers are being targeted too. In 2025 the FBI gave AI-related crime its own section in its annual report for the first time.
You can’t reliably hear the difference, and you don’t have to. This guide gives your family a few simple habits that make even a perfect fake useless.
- Voice-clone “family emergency” calls
- Fake kidnapping calls with altered photos
- Deepfake video calls from “the boss”
- AI phishing emails and scam texts
- Fake bank, police and tech support calls
- Deepfake celebrity investment ads
- Romance scams with AI personas
- Fake images and sextortion aimed at teens

How it works
Remember one word: PAUSE
- Pause the pressure. End the call and say “I’ll call you right back.” Real people can wait five minutes. Scams can’t.
- Ask for the code word. Your family agrees on one in person. Ask for it. Never offer it.
- Use a number you already have. Call back on the number saved in your phone. Caller ID can be faked.
- Speak to someone you trust. Tell another family member before any money moves.
- Examine the payment. Gift cards, crypto, wire transfers or a “safe account” always mean scam.
Who it is for
Written for the whole family
Parents who want a plan before something happens. Adult children worried about their parents. Grandparents who want to feel confident when the phone rings. Families with teenagers who share a lot online. Anyone who has had a close call and wants to make sure it never works next time.
Written by Engr. Imran Umar Lodhi, an electrical engineer, educator and certified ISO 45001 safety lead auditor. In safety work you don’t rely on people spotting every hazard. You give them simple procedures that still work under pressure. This guide brings that approach to scams.
Frequently asked questions
Is this only for seniors?
No. It covers every age group, including teens, working adults and parents. Each scam chapter shows who is most at risk.
Do I need to be good with technology?
Not at all. If you can make a phone call, you can use the PAUSE method. The language is plain and the text is easy to read.
Can I type into the forms?
Yes. Three of the printables are fillable in any free PDF reader. You can also print them and write by hand.
Where do the facts come from?
Official sources such as the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center, the US Federal Trade Commission and published research. All 21 sources are listed in the guide.
Is it only for the US?
The scams work the same way everywhere. The reporting section covers the US, UK, Canada and Australia and tells readers elsewhere where to go.
Is this a physical product?
No. You receive digital files in one ZIP download. Books and devices in the product images are presentation mockups.
Instant digital download after payment. Launch price until 31 October 2026. This guide is general educational information, not legal or financial advice.
