Free Weighted Grade Average and Final Exam Calculator

Calculate your weighted grade average from scores and weights, or find out what score you need on the final exam to reach the grade you want. Works for school, college and university courses.

1. Weighted grade average

Enter at least one score and weight.

2. What do I need on the final exam?

Fill in all three boxes.

Check your school’s grading policy. Some courses use different rules.

How it works

  • Weighted average = the sum of (score times weight) divided by the sum of the weights.
  • Needed final score = (target grade minus current grade times the share already graded) divided by the final exam share.

Example

You have 80% so far, the final is worth 40% and you want 85% overall. The coursework is 60% of the grade, so it contributes 48 points. You need 37 more points from a final worth 40, which is a score of 92.5%.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a weighted grade?

Multiply each score by its weight, add the results, then divide by the total weight. Our calculator does this as you type.

Do weights have to add up to 100?

No. If your weights add up to less than 100, the result is your average for the work graded so far.

Can I use this for GPA?

This tool gives a percentage average. GPA depends on your school scale, so convert the percentage using your school grade table.
